-I want an Obilab Drum! I’ve gone to the Obilab website and ordered one, when can I expect to get my hands on those beautiful pieces of cardboard and fiberglass?
Congrats! Rock and roll! You can expect your drumkit towards the end of September or early October.
-That’s a few months away! What’s going on over there?
SO glad you asked! Cause the truth is, we’ve got a lot of exciting things to tell you about our very deliberate process.
Obilab is currently conquering 6 very important challenges. And, like everything else in the company, we’re happy to be totally transparent on what we’re doing and why.
1. Even more improvements
Obilab is serious about not just creating an amazing project, but constantly evolving. We choose to test Obilab drums in real life, and that takes time; having lots of people try the kit, and careful studying. We are seeing how the kit holds up over time, what modifications pros and newbies wanted to see, and talking with other inventors about sound, material, technology.
And after lots of input, we are quite proud to say our output is an all new version of Obilab cardboard drums. The newest model is every bit as light, mobile, and fun to play with the important added benefits of being much more physically stable, having a reinforced, louder kick pedal, and a small change in the shape of the fiberglass-covering.
Obilab is committed to finding ethical, quality, global materials. It’s imperative that these drums are able to be produced on-site all over the world in order to create local jobs and economy and cut down on the pollution involved in shipping over great distances.
Like sourcing, it’s essential that the drums pieces can be cut and assembled everywhere around the globe. Which means finding manufacturing companies in various global locations, who treat their workers ethically, and are interested and understand Obilab’s drumkit and overall mission.
4. We need to blow your musical mind
We’re constantly told ‘some people are musicians while others just aren’t’. Obilab is determined to change this exclusive mentality and prove that everyone is musical; not just the pros. Furthermore that every person deserves easy access to music making, especially when it comes to the usually cumbersome, hard to transport, expensive and confusing to purchase, drums.
5. Bigger isn’t always better
Paired within the musical mentality above is also the false idea that the best equipment is the most expensive. Or perhaps that a real musical instrument is something that looks a certain way and costs a certain price. Obilab drums were designed to specifically combat this mentality, being totally affordable and with a serious twist on the classic design. But, we’ve got years and years of miseducation to correct so we expect it to take time, paired with giving people the opportunity to experience Obilab drums for themselves.
6. Summer, summer, summer time
If you’re not in Europe it’s easy to forget that EVERYTHING stops in the month of August. But everyone and everything in Europe goes on a much needed summer holiday. Because Obilab’s current production is based out of Europe, it’s almost impossible to manufacture during the month of August.
So, until September/October please know...
Obilab is completely ecstatic to be building a community of people who think about music outside of the box--literally. The excitement for Obilab drums has been beyond our wildest dreams. We’re grateful that you’re trusting us that your Obilab drumkit will be well worth the wait.
And, we’re eager to send each and every one of you your kit in the upcoming months.
